The trail covers 2,189 miles (give or take) and crosses 14 states. I will be starting at Mt. Katahdin in Maine and hiking southbound, ending at Springer Mountain in northern Georgia.
The first two months will be spent in northern New England, covering Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
I expect to enter Massachusetts the first week of August and quickly cross portions of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia.
By early September, I should be entering Virginia, the state with the most miles of trail at 541. Crossing Virginia will take 4-5 weeks.
Once out of Virginia, I will be straddling the North Carolina/Tennessee border, crossing back and forth several times before entering Georgia. If all goes well, I will be home for Thanksgiving with a week to spare.
